Santa Barbara County Fire Station 31 Visits FLG Inc.

Local heroes from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department Station 31 recently made a visit to FirstLine.

“We always enjoy when the departments stop by to say hello,” said FirstLine President, Colette Perches.  “It is such a pleasure to talk with them and it gives us a chance to learn more about the industry.”

Station 31 is the local Buellton department that is just a few miles from the FirstLine office. The station is staffed with one captain, one engineer, one firefighter and one firefighter-paramedic at all times.

On this day in particular, Captain Steve Selle, Engineer Mark Acosta, and firefighters Jim Contreras and Danny Haynes brought their rig by and let the FirstLine team take some pictures with them.

“It was fun getting the opportunity to take pictures on their truck.  I can’t believe how heavy the fire hose was, and all that gear they put on must get so hot!” said FirstLine's Customer Support Specialist, Jamie Mathews.

The FirstLine Team also discussed glove options with the department for their Hazmat needs.  The guys thought FirstLine’s thickest Nitrile glove Intercept Elite, would suit them best for their Hazmat uses.

The department was also introduced to the latest addition to FirstLine’s Nitrile glove line, Flextreme.  The guys especially liked Flextreme’s Fingerflex Technology, which includes extra ribbing on the fingers for more dexterity and non-textured index and middle fingertips for added tactile sensitivity.  They were excited to learn that the Fingerflex Technology would soon be implemented on FirstLine’s entire Nitrile line.

The department was also excited to try FirstLine’s GloveMate™ glove liners and Bio-Safe skin protectant, which is ideal for healing dry hands or to aid in allergy prevention. Bio-Safe even protects and prevents against the growth of most bacteria, fungus and microbes, including MRSA and E-Coli, rather than using alcohol-based hand sanitizers which strip the skin of its own natural oils.

“It is important for us to interact with the different fire departments because it gives us a chance for a more hands on approach to education, which is a main focus and goal at FirstLine.  It’s easier to show someone our products and educate them face-to-face than trying to do it all over the phone,” said Operations Manager Dustin Knackstedt.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department recently spent some time educating the public themselves by holding several town hall meetings entitled “Preparing for Your Next Wildfire,” throughout the Santa Barbara County. The emphasis of these meetings was what to do if you found yourself trapped in your home by a wildfire, which was the case for many local residents during the recent Tea Fire in Santa Barbara.

FirstLine is proud to support our local departments and will continue to provide them with the best hand protection in the industry as well as the most important education needed to make the right decisions in hand PPE.  Because at FirstLine… we depend on you and much as you depend on us.
